Congratulations to Professor of Developmental Linguistics, Antonella Sorace who was awarded the "Premio Sa Die" by the Assemblea Nazionale Sarda (ANS) this week. The award is a prestigious recognition awarded to figures who exemplify Sardinian identity, typically presented during the celebrations of Sa Die de sa Sardigna - Sardinian Day – 28th April.Recipients of the award are decided by the ANS he legislative assembly of the autonomous region of Sardinia.Professor Sorace is being honoured for the profound value of her internationally recognised scientific and cultural work, and her commitment to promoting bilingualism and linguistic diversity. The award states that, through her research, Antonella has contributed significantly to strengthening awareness of the importance of languages and cultural identities, themes of great relevance to Sardinia. I’m delighted and honoured to receive this prize: Sardinian is part of my childhood as my family’s heritage language. I hope to continue to do both research and public engagement in Sardinia, and to collaborate with people who care about the future of Sardinian as a minority language.
