British Academy Newton International Fellowships Scheme

The Scheme has been established to attract the most promising early career post-doctoral researchers from outside the UK to enable them to work at UK research institutions for a period of two years. Scheme covers all disciplines – physical, natural and social sciences, and the humanities.

Please note- the School is not supporting applications to this scheme in 2021

Eligibility: Maximum of 7 years active full time postdoc experience at the time of application. Has to be living/working outside of the UK at time of application

Budget: £24,000pa for subsistence, £8,000pa for research expenses, £2,000 for relocation. *Please note*- as the annual subsistence amount is tax-free the fellow will not be given a contract of employment by the University but will be a “Visiting Fellow”.

Internal Process: An academic “Co-applicant” is required who has had prior contact with the applicant and shares similar research interests. It’s important the academic supports the applicant and is willing to work with them on the application. There is an element of reciprocity regarding training and sharing of knowledge between the applicant and co-applicant.

Deadline: March (annual). The internal deadline is usually 3 weeks before the funder deadline
