Awarded by The Royal Institute of Philosophy, Nayef Al-Rodhan International Book Prize in Transdisciplinary Philosophy was launched to celebrate exceptional discipline-transcending works.

The two books have been listed alongside four others for the £20,000 prize.

The Brain Abstracted by Dr Mazviita Chirimuuta

In 'The Brain Abstracted', Mazviita offers an “opinionated” history of neuroscience arguing that, due to the brain's complexity, neuroscientific theories have only captured partial truths—and “neurophilosophy” is unlikely to be achieved.

The AI Mirror: Reclaiming Our Humanity in an Age of Machine Thinking by Shannon Vallor

This book presents a case for what AI could be, a way to reclaim our human potential for moral and intellectual growth, rather than lose ourselves in mirrors of the past. The book encourages the reader to pursue the technology as way of recovering our sense of the possible. Vallor calls on us to rethink what AI is and can be, and what we want to do with it.
