After being part of the University of Edinburgh’s landscape for almost 15 years, we are pleased to announce that Bilingualism Matters will launch as a spin-out company.

The launch will be marked by an event at the Royal Society of Edinburgh on Wednesday 30 March.

Founded in 2008, Bilingualism Matters is a community of organisations and individuals with a shared commitment to provide families, communities and education professionals with access to the latest, research based evidence on multilingualism and language learning. It became a University of Edinburgh Centre of Excellence in 2014.

Their model has now been replicated in 25 centres in countries across the world including:

  • Spain
  • Poland
  • Italy
  • Israel
  • The United States
  • Canada

As the Founding Director of Bilingualism Matters, I’m delighted that after 14 years of continuous growth we are now spinning out from the University of Edinburgh as an independent not-for-profit organisation. This development will allow us to strengthen the links among our national and international partners and form new collaborations, within our overall mission of bridging research and society and promoting multilingualism in any languages

Professor Antonella Sorace
Founding Director, Bilingualism Matters

The launch will take place at the Royal Society Edinburgh and will be live streamed from 6.15pm - 7pm. Attendance to the online portion of the event is free, book your space using the link below.
