The Kathleen Meek PhD Scholarship scheme is designed to attract high-quality students applying for PhD research in English. One PhD is available for Home fee-status applicants to the PhD Linguistics & English Language within the School of School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. Candidates chosen for funding will exemplify the high standards the University of Edinburgh sets for its research students and the investment that we make in their potential.AwardThe award provides full tuition fees with an annual stipend for 3 years and a Research Training Support Grant. The stipend will be set to the UKRI level for 2026/2027. The UKRI level for 2025/2026 is currently £20,780 for full-time students, or the pro rata equivalent for part-time students. EligibilityCandidates with an outstanding track record of academic achievements and research potential are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be seeking to start their first year of full-time or part-time PhD study in 2026/2027. Only Home fee-status candidates will be considered for this award. MSc by Research programmes are not eligible. Candidates shortlisted for the award will be interviewed by the relevant School. ApplyingEligible applicants should complete an online scholarship application via the scholarships portal. The scholarships portal is located in EUCLID and can be accessed via MyEd (our web based information portal) at: https://www.myed.ed.ac.uk. The scholarship portal will open in the week commencing Monday 8th December. In order to gain access to the scholarship application system applicants must have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh. When logging in to MyEd, you will need your University User Name (UUN) and password. The scholarship deadline is 13th April 2026. You are strongly advised to ensure that you have submitted your application for admission at least five working days before this date lest you encounter any technical difficulties with your application which need resolved. Selection procedureAll eligible applicants will be assessed and ranked by the relevant academic admissions panel within the School. The highest ranked eligible candidate will be offered the award.
