The Robert J. Glushko Prize recognises undergraduate excellence in Cognitive Science.

Each year the award will be presented to two final year undergraduate students on our Cognitive Science degrees (one from PPLS, one from the School of Informatics), who have achieved excellence in one or more of the following ways:

  • Outstanding achievement in coursework across the Cognitive Science curriculum.
  • Independent, original research that contributes to cognitive science, culminating in a paper and/or an oral research presentation.
  • Sustained engagement with and contribution to faculty-directed research, as a research assistant, culminating in a paper and/or an oral research presentation.
  • A self-nominating essay reflecting on the applicant’s cognitive science journey.

The prize is funded by a generous gift from Robert J. Glushko. Dr. Glushko is Adjunct Professor of Cognitive Science at the University of California, Berkeley and an honorary lifetime member of the Cognitive Science Society.

Our small community of cognitive scientists has been at the core of my university experience. I deeply cherish the opportunities I had through being part of this bubbly family, and I am touched by the kind words of my peers. I hope to bring the energy of our cohort everywhere I go.

Vlad Grigoras

It's a delight to be able to offer this prize for the first time, and we could think of nobody more worthy than Vlad. Students and staff alike agreed that Vlad embodies the values we cherish in our community, always being available to support his peers while growing intellectually and personally himself. We'll miss Vlad and the rest of the class of 2023!
