Philosophy Professor appears at philosophy and music festival

This weekend saw Professor Tommy Curry face an audience slightly different to the one he is accustomed to as he took part in the HowTheLightGetsIn festival in Hay on Wye.

Organised by the Institute of Art and Ideas, HowTheLightGetsIn is a philosophy and music festival that aims to "to get philosophy out of the academy and into people's lives" by bringing together philosophers, writers, academics, comedians and musicians for a festival of debate, talks, music, workshops, and late night parties. The festival was established in 2008 and is held every two years. This year’s event attracted over 30,000 visitors.

Professor Curry took part in two panel discussions; The Good and the Evil examined the implications of the future digital world and discussed whether we should be afraid, as some say we should or, recognise that this vision is a science fiction fantasy that is simply a marketing device to motivate staff and shareholders?; Truth Prejudice and the University debated the growing issue of academics being undermined by institutional group think and the establishment of the University of Austin, a new institution that encourages all enquiry.

The Institute of Art Player provides content from the festival and throughout the year and is available to all with a small subscription fee.
